The SPLASH program is administered by a special unit of the Cardiovascular Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity section of the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Control, at the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH). This unit provides guidance, resources, technical assistance and state-level review and support of all SPLASH activities in the state.

In addition to being the home of the administrative offices of the SPLASH program, other representatives of the MDCH play key roles in planning, advising, and supporting the delivery of SPLASH programming. The contributions from a broad range of disciplines within the MDCH enriches the program and makes a vast array of content expertise available to program participants.

Model for
Health®

While the Michigan Model for Health® is a nationally recognized K-12 health education curriculum, in Michigan, the name has become synonymous with the network of School Health Education Coordinators and the State Steering Committee.

All Michigan School Health Education Coordinators are members of a state-wide organization, the Comprehensive School Health Coordinators' Association (CSHCA), and work together it the promotion and support of healthy children and families in Michigan. Most of these Coordinators are also engaged in the SPLASH program.

The Michigan Model for Health Curriculum is an evidence-based, skills-based, comprehensive health education curriculum, published and distributed through a partnership with the Educational Materials Center (EMC) at Central Michigan University. Curriculum and support materials are distributed by the EMC, through the regional Coordinators, to teachers in classrooms throughout the state of Michigan, and directly to schools in over 39 other states. As part of the SPLASH program, all participating classroom teachers received high quality professional development training and curriculum and materials for use with their students.
