Michigan
Department
of Community
Health |
The SPLASH
program is
administered by
a special unit
of the
Cardiovascular
Health,
Nutrition and
Physical
Activity section
of the Division
of Chronic
Disease and
Injury Control,
at the Michigan
Department of
Community Health
(MDCH). This
unit provides
guidance,
resources,
technical
assistance and
state-level
review and
support of all
SPLASH
activities in
the state.
In addition to
being the home
of the
administrative
offices of the
SPLASH program,
other
representatives
of the MDCH play
key roles in
planning,
advising, and
supporting the
delivery of
SPLASH
programming. The
contributions
from a broad
range of
disciplines
within the MDCH
enriches the
program and
makes a vast
array of content
expertise
available to
program
participants.

Michigan
Department

The focus of the
SPLASH program
is on
school-aged
children and
their families.
The Michigan
Department of
Education (MDE)
is a vital
partner with MDE
Health Education
Consultants and
Administrators
playing key
roles in
planning,
advising, and
supporting the
delivery of
SPLASH
programming in
Michigan
schools.
Michigan
Departments of
Education and
Community Health
are lead
agencies in the
development of
curricular
content for the
Michigan
Model for Health®
and work in
collaboration
with the
Educational
Materials Center
at Central
Michigan
University in
the publishing
and distribution
of the
curriculum.

Michigan
Fitness
Foundation |
The Governor's
Council on
Physical
Fitness, Health
and Sports was
established in
1992 to improve
the health of,
and increase
physical
activity among,
Michigan
residents.
The Michigan
Fitness
Foundation was
created in 1994
as a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit public
charity
foundation to
expedite
Governor's
Council policies
and programs and
provide a
broader funding
base to pursue
its mission of
Getting Michigan
Moving.

Exemplary
Physical
Education
Curriculum |
EPEC (Exemplary
Physical
Education
Curriculum) is
an award-winning
chronic disease
(obesity)
prevention
program for
grades K-12 that
is aligned to
the NASPE
standards for
physical
education. An
easy-to-use,
true curriculum
that is strong
on assessment,
EPEC promotes
life-long skills
in students and
is already being
used by
thousands of
teachers to
strengthen both
the practice as
well as the
perception of
physical
education in
their schools.
As part of the
SPLASH program,
participating
Physical
Education
Teachers receive
EPEC training
and materials
for use with
their students.

product of the
Michigan Fitness
Foundation. For

Michigan
Model for
Health® |
While the
Michigan Model
for Health®
is a nationally
recognized K-12
health education
curriculum, in
Michigan, the
name has become
synonymous with
the network of
School Health
Education
Coordinators and
the
State Steering
Committee.
All Michigan
School Health
Education
Coordinators are
members of a
state-wide
organization,
the
Comprehensive
School Health
Coordinators'
Association
(CSHCA), and
work together it
the promotion
and support of
healthy children
and families in
Michigan. Most
of these
Coordinators
are also engaged
in the SPLASH
program.
The Michigan
Model for Health
Curriculum is an
evidence-based,
skills-based,
comprehensive
health education
curriculum,
published and
distributed
through a
partnership with
the
Educational
Materials Center
(EMC) at Central
Michigan
University.
Curriculum and
support
materials are
distributed by
the
EMC,
through the
regional
Coordinators, to
teachers in
classrooms
throughout the
state of
Michigan, and
directly to
schools in over
39 other states.
As part of the
SPLASH program,
all
participating
classroom
teachers
received high
quality
professional
development
training and
curriculum and
materials for
use with their
students.
